Excellence Is Our Tradition
The Lazy E Ranch opened its gates in the fall of 1984 with interests in the performance horse industry, and both quarter horse and thoroughbred racing industries. World Champion and Quarter Horse Hall of Fame Sire, Zan Parr Jack called the Lazy E home that first year. Jack became the cornerstone of the Lazy E’s commitment to the performance horse industry. With the purchase and addition of World Champion and World Champion sire Special Effort in 1989, the Lazy E was recognized as one of the top Quarter Horse breeding operations in the country.
Today, the Lazy E Ranch is proud to offer a line-up of premier Quarter Horse stallions in the racing and performance horse industries. Visit our Stallion page to view our roster. In addition to breeding and foaling out mares, the Ranch boasts one of the top sales prep operations in the country, representing sellers at the most prestigious sales across the United States. You can regularly find our consignments on the top sellers lists!
The Ranch is located on two sites—the breeding facility and the training center. The breeding facility is situated on 300 rolling acres and includes a 65,000 square foot mare barn, 116 stalls, 2 foaling stalls, an indoor arena, 40 individual stalls with adjoining runs, turn out paddocks, and the capability to accommodate 120 mares under lights. The training center sits on 625 acres just down the road from the ranch and houses year-round mares with turnouts and paddocks for layups, weanlings, and yearlings. There’s also an additional 200+ individual stalls for sale prep horses.
The Ranch breeds approximately 2,000 mares a year, foaling out over 400. The Lazy E is a leading consignor of Quarter Horses with more than 500 passing through our sales prep program each year. These numbers would not be possible without our knowledgeable staff of more than 65.
Decades of experience, professionalism, state-of-the-art facilities, and a superior dedicated staff are the reasons so many have entrusted their equine investments to the Lazy E Ranch. Stop by for a visit, meet our staff, see what we offer and experience the Lazy E difference for yourself!
In 2005, the originator of the Lazy E, E.K. Gaylord II sold the Lazy E to a partnership from Nevada, and in October 2013 the property was sold to the McKinney Family from Midland, Texas. Lazy E Arena and Ranch is currently owned by Gary and Micah McKinney of Reliance Ranches, who proudly continue the Gaylord family legacy of horse industry involvement and promoting the western way of life.
