Internships are a stepping stone into the equine industry, providing both experience and networking opportunities. The work week is six days per week, from the hours of 6am to 5pm, apart from foaling attendants who work overnight from 5pm to 6am. All internships are paid positions and on-site housing is provided; positions and details follow. Enthusiastic and self-motivated applicants are encouraged to send a cover letter and resume to:

Internship FAQ
Q. What is the pay structure?
A. It is an hourly pay rate that is approximately $500/ week, paid bi-weekly.
Q. Is there a possibility that I could be offered this internship in the future? (In case I decide not to take the internship)
A. Yes, it is always a possibility if you reapply.
Q. Can/Do we ride the horses at all?
A. Interns do not ride ranch horses or ride on ranch time.
Q. Are there any breaks? Like a spring break or vacation days?
A. Interns do not receive vacation days. Time off is scheduled through your supervisor.
Q. I have special dietary needs. Will there be dining options for me?
A. Groceries and cooking are left up to the individual interns and/or group if they decide to split the meal expenses.
Q. What will the housing situation look like?
A. Housing is a 12-room bunk house with communal dining, living, and kitchen areas, plus a large shared bathroom with multiple sinks, stalls, and showers. Rooms are first-come, first-serve, and some rooms have bunk beds. Sharing rooms may be a possibility depending on the number of interns hired.
Interns are responsible for bringing all linens (sheets, comforters/blankets, pillows, towels, etc.). The shared kitchen and dining areas are stocked with basic cooking supplies (pots, pans, baking dishes, utensils, etc.).
Q. Will this internship allow me to seek out future jobs in the equine business field?
A. Yes, many former interns now have in various aspects of the equine industry. Some former interns have even returned to the Lazy E Ranch and are now invaluable members of our team.
Q. How is travel to Oklahoma handled? Do we use our our own funds? How will we get to the farm if we don’t have vehicles?
A. Travel is at your expense. You can always ask to ride with fellow interns. Uber, Lyft, and ride-sharing programs can be difficult in rural areas.
Q. What should I bring to be best prepared?
A. Foaling and Breeding Attendants should come prepared for all forms of weather as these internships begin in the winter and continue into the spring/early summer. While we are in the south, Oklahoma is known to have its cold spells. We recommend bringing coveralls/insulated bibs if you have them, leggings, long johns, or under armor to layer with on cold days, and insulated boots (ex. Muck Boots or snow boots) to be prepared during the winter months. All interns are asked to wear jeans and closed-toed shoes when working. All interns should be prepared to work in the rain and mud at some point as well. We recommend bringing a set of rain boots and a water resistant jacket/coat to stay warm and dry. There are many fun events that take place at the Lazy E Arena and surrounding area throughout the year. We encourage interns to bring a couple sets of nicer clothes/outfits as well in case they’d like to attend an event or explore the area.
